How does the Leaves With You coffin ritual help with grief?

Leaves With You makes space for the truth and reality of grief to exist. Through the process of weaving the coffin, those preparing to grieve are given time and space to be present with how they feel. Modern western funeral culture does not often allow us to tend to our pain and grief, which can lead to many feeling helpless and more frustrated than they might. Giving space to feel however you feel through weaving each knot can provide you and your loved ones with compassion and time to heal. If you are weaving this coffin for yourself, you have an opportunity to gift yourself time for self-reflection, self-love, and acceptance.

Can this coffin be used for cremation?

Yes. Leaves With You supports you self-educating when deciding what to do with your body. We invite you to ask yourself – what are the environmental and emotional impacts of what I’m choosing? Please reach out to us if you’d like to discuss this further, as this conversation is a bit too long for an FAQ page.

Where are your products available for use?

At this time, the coffin is only available in the northeastern United States. Transportation costs are not included and will vary based on location. Leaves can be used at most cemeteries. If you are looking for a special dream place to be buried under and thereby be in relationship to a tree, we recommend checking out Green Burial Council as your one stop sustainable funeral planning resource.

The Macrame Memorial can be shipped throughout the United States.

I want to use Leaves at the end of my life, but am not ready yet, if you know what I mean.

We are so glad to hear that you are planning ahead and are thinking of choosing Leaves. One option is to specify in your Will that you wish to use Leaves and sustainable funeral practices. If you haven’t written your Will yet, that’s okay – we can provide you with a special “certificate” stating your wishes. You can keep this safe for when the time comes.

I’m ready to purchase Leaves. Do I have to go through a funeral home or can I work directly with you?

You can work directly with us. The Federal Trade Commission allows you purchase any coffin/casket of your choosing without a funeral home charging you any additional fees. Make sure to inform your funeral director or death doula that you will be working with us. We are glad to work with whomever you choose to create your personal end of life ceremony.

How long does the coffin take to make?

PLEASE NOTE – Due to current circumstances, coffin production is delayed. Please contact us at hello@leaveswithyou.com to inquire about your needs.

The timeline varies. Depending on your package, your coffin can be created within two weeks or could extend to over a month, depending on your ritual needs. Please note that the coffin is made to order. We will do our best to accommodate your needs, so please reach out to us with any questions!

I love this coffin but cannot afford it. What can I do?

In efforts to shift the stagnant funeral industry, Leaves With You strives to provide our ritual and coffin at the most transparent and affordable exchange. Contact us if these prices are not accessible to you, and we will do our best to accommodate your needs.
